HOMEDALE, IDAHO--

A 12-year-old Homedale boy died late Monday night from a gunshot wound to the head, the Ada County Coroner said early Tuesday.

Homedale Middle School students write out touching words after learning their 12-year-old friend Marcos Jaramillo did not survive a gunshot wound to the head. The shooting happened Sunday in Marsing and according to neighbors inside a Main Street apartment complex. Police say the shooting was an accident at the hands of a 14-year old friend.

"Accidents happen; bad things happen to good people" says Owyhee County Sheriff Daryl Crandall.

Police say although the shooting was an accident charges could still be filed against the 14 year old Homedale girl. School officials say students are taking the death hard.

"When kids are 11 and 12 death is a difficult thing anyway and when it happens it really makes it even more difficult", says School Principal Lucia Ausmendi-Mereness.

Police say they will use this tragic death as a tool to educate students and parents about gun safety. Meantime, they say although the shooting was an accident they will still go forward Thursday to the prosecuting attorney to making charge recommendation. However, they say it will be up to that office to determine what the final outcome will be.
