Unemployment Rises Again in Idaho

Posted: Updated:

The national unemployed rate went up to 10.2%

Idaho is not that far behind, with 8.9%.

"Mostly just hopeful, there's not a lot out there," said an unemployed Treasure Valley man.

Idahoans know its tough trying to find a job.

But they keep coming back...in hopes of landing one.

Idaho's unemployment rate is slowly creeping up to the 9% mark.

In October, the unemployment rate went to 8.9%.

Now, 67,300 Idahoans are now out of work, which is more than a thousand higher than the previous month.

The unemployment rate last October was only 6.6%.

And those numbers have the department of labor worried.

"What we're worried about is the month coming up. We might go up with some huge jump 4, 5, 6 point jump from where we are, well over 9-percent," said the Department of Labor spokesman Bob Fick.

Since January the federal government has paid more than $547-million dollars in Idaho jobless benefits and not many new jobs have opened up.

"Our current October's job number is only 200 jobs off of what January's number was. So we've had a stagnate job situation the entire year," said Fick.

But despite what the numbers show, Idahoans are still looking for work.

The Department of Labor says it's extremely difficult to find any new jobs in the state of Idaho, even in the medical field it's usually looking for workers.
