Oregon State Police troopers, with help from the Baker County Sheriff's Office and emergency responders, are continuing the investigation into an early Thursday morning single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 84 in the Baker City area that killed one person and injured 15 others. Oregon State Police spokesman, Lt. Gregg Hastings says, "More specific information regarding the occupants in the out-of-state involved van will be provided after initial contacts have been completed."
Preliminary information from the scene indicates that, at 5:20 a.m., a 2002 Ford van with sixteen occupants was westbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 302 when it drove off the roadway and rolled multiple times. "The majority of the van occupants were ejected and all 16 have been transported to multiple hospitals for treatment of injuries, some of which are described as critical.
