DUBOIS, Idaho (AP) -- Residents in the southeastern Idaho town of Dubois face uncertainty following the closing of a potato processing plant that employed 22 percent of Clark County's labor force.
The shuttering of the Idahoan Foods plant on Oct. 22 eliminated 128 jobs from a plant that is six miles south of Dubois.
Dubois mayor Keith Tweedie tells the Post Register that the closure makes residents nervous about the town's future.
Drew Facer, Idahoan Foods' vice president of Retail Sales and Food Service, says the company decided to close the plant to consolidate its operations at existing plants.
Many downtown Dubois' businesses have been shuttered or vacant for years.
Mike Ferguson, Idaho's chief economist, says Dubois' problems could intensify now that the potato plant has closed.
