A crash between a Greyhound bus and a pickup truck is being blamed, as least in part, on icy roads.
The crash happened at about midnight Thursday near the Stage Stop on Interstate 84 between Boise and Mountain Home.
The pickup was trying to pass the bus when the driver lost control and spun out, investigators said. The bus collided with the truck and both went off the road.
It was a terrifying experience for bus passengers, many of whom were jolted awake.
"We were going down the road and I heard someone scream on the bus, I looked over and there was a white car flashing past us, it flipped around a bunch of times and came to rest in the middle of the road, " said bus passenger Adam Gnade.
The bus driver couldn't avoid a collision, but he was able to stop the bus from flipping over.
"The driver tried to maintain us," Gnade said. "As we were tipping, sliding all over the road, it was kind of rough for a while, and we went into the ditch... thought we were gonna tip over, but he kept us upright."
Both occupants of the pickup were seriously injured. One of them was taken to a Boise hospital by air ambulance.
Four bus passengers were treated for minor injuries.
Idaho State Police warn that freezing temperatures overnight created very dangerous driving conditions.
"We have some icy roads, some black ice... very slick," said Lt. Brian Zimmerman. "And the roads are in that condition all the way to Twin Falls from the Oregon border."
