A truck driver is behind bars accused of trying to entice a 13-year-old girl over the internet. That girl ended up being undercover detectives.
Arthur Schmierer was arrested at a Nampa McDonalds on Friday after a whirl-wind investigation by the Canyon County Sheriff's office. "We were running about as quickly as we could," Lt. Marv Dashiell said.
Schmierer came onto the radar nearly 600 miles away near Cedar City, Utah. That's where he allegedly tried to entice another girl for sex through an online chat.
Investigators there tipped off detectives in Canyon County. Within days, detectives orchestrated an intricate plan that involved multiple agencies, online chats, and telephone conversations with Schmierer. "We've got the telephone and internet conversations and are using that back against him," Lt. Dashiell said.
Detectives are still working the case, searching through evidence taken from Shmierer. They worry, with the distances he traveled, they may find an actual victim. "We may actually link it to other cases that haven't been reported yet," Lt. Dashiell said.
Schmierer is being held on a $250,000 bond. He's also to have no contact with any minors.
